Graham Coxon at the Civic Hall Bar Wolverhampton.
Graham Coxon it is then. Oh dear.
A blue black cloud is still hanging above me as a result of what passed during the evening of the 15th May, so I shall refrain from reviewing "Spinning Top" by Graham Coxon in the fanzine this month. In fact to rid us of this unpleasantness let me take you back to a happier time and sunnier place. We shall leave Civic Hall Bar in Wolverhampton and travel back to the Eastside Park in Birmingham, The Soundstation Festival and the lovely warm spring evening of the 28th May 2006. The touch and feel of grass on the posterior, the smell of greasy burgers being charred close by, the illuminated 9.15 train trailing out of Moor Street Station going somewhere along the multi arched blackened brick viaduct above our heads. Boy Kill Boy (whatever happened to them) Orson (cart) (I don't want to know what's happened to them) and The Guillemots (err) had all been, done their bit and gone. Now young Graham Coxon was on stage entertaining us with a wonderful set culled from his two post punk albums "Happiness in Magazines" and "Love Travels at Illegal Speeds" - he stood all the way through that night - except of course when he did a backwards somersault whilst still playing guitar - happier days, much, much, much happier days!
